Flood and coastal resilience innovation programme (FCRIP)

Rural communities are at the centre of projects developing, testing and trialling approaches that increase their resilience to flooding. Here we highlight innovative projects, pilots and research happening in rural areas and provide links for you to explore further.

What’s new in Flood Resilience?

Flood and coastal resilience innovation programme (FCRIP)

The Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme (FCRIP) is part of the government’s National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy for England. Managed by the Environment Agency, the programme allocated £150 million for 25 local area projects to address current and future flood risks, from the sea, rivers, groundwater and surface water. These projects demonstrate how practical innovative actions used in combination can improve resilience to flooding and coastal erosion in a changing climate.

Key to the programme is learning from doing. The evidence gathered through this 6-year programme (2021 to 2027) will guide future approaches in flood and coastal risk management.
